What's Wrong With Liberals?
Get moving!

Conservatives want everything to go back to the way it just was. Liberals want everything to change.

Conservatives are always looking behind them so they can all agree on their destination: It's that place they just left.

Liberals are in a rush to get to utopia, but they disagree on the correct path to get there.

Imagine a long, winding path. It goes back forever, and liberals hate everything they see when they turn around and look back.

It's horrible! Look at all that racism and sexism! But we disagree on the path ahead of us. Sometimes the fog lifts and we think we see a shining city on a hill, and it's where we all want to go. But the way isn't clearly marked, and we can't agree on how to get there.

Some people are racing ahead and they become angry at the laggards who are picking their way slowly along.

The laggards want to be sure they are going the right way. They are like careful drivers in a blizzard, creeping along, afraid of running off the road. They will get there, they believe, but it will take a while.

The racers are impatient with the laggards. They're never going to get there! What in hell is wrong with those slowpokes? Sometimes the people in a hurry run off the road, but the danger of doing so never seems to convince them to take more care.

It is tempting to think liberals should have more patience with each other. We're all on the same road. What does it matter if we are all going at our own pace? We will get there eventually.

But that's not how liberals think: If we thought that way, we would be conservatives. And that is why liberals eat their young. We turn around and attack everyone we think is going too slowly. The road rage brings all progress to a halt and the corpses pile up.

I could give a hundred examples of times when a very woke person attacks a sort of woke person, making all liberals look ridiculous. But the prime example of our time can be seen in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. While we agonize whether we should go for safety or transformation, no such agony can be seen among conservatives. They know what they want, and they know where they're going: It is not a place where I want to be.
