Just A Few of the Ways DONALD-45 and COVID-19 are Really the Same Thing

A cure is in sight for both, but we’re not out of danger yet

DONALD-45 and COVID-19 have so much in common it’s not hard to understand why DONALD-45 welcomed and encouraged the virus into the country as if it were an old friend.

He’s enthusiastically promoted his viral comrade by discouraging masks, holding frequent super-spreader events, declining to champion another relief bill and refusing to properly utilize the Defense Production Act. He’s aligned himself with some of the worst human beings on the planet, such as Roger Stone, Rudy Guiliani, Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, Betsy DeVos, Mike Pompeo, Bill Barr … oh hey, I can’t list them all. Who wants to read a list of thousands of names? He never met a destructive force he didn’t love, so it’s not surprising he’s nurtured this virus.

After all, the two are so alike! Once you start comparing them, you begin to wonder: “Has anyone ever actually seen DONALD-45 and COVID-19 in the same room together?”

Note that each of these blanks could be filled by either DONALD-45 or COVID-19 and would still make sense:

• Our country has changed profoundly and will never be the same after ___ is gone. We will always think of life in terms of Before ___ and After ___.

• Many of us have lost loved ones because of ___.

• ___ exposed numerous cracks in our system that we did not fully realize were there.

• We never realized just how screwed up some people in our circle were before ___ came along.

• The poor and people of color have suffered much more than well-off whites from ___.

• ___ is a real threat to the nation’s health care system.

• We don’t know for sure ___ is really going to be gone for good. There’s a possibility that just when we think we’re safe, ___ will spring back.

As horrible as this is, people, keep in mind it is just a dress rehearsal. The next time, we might get an entity similar to ___ but that is worse. We could get a smart fascist authoritarian. The only thing that saved us this time is his profound stupidity. TRUMP-45 is an evil genius minus the genius. Also, this virus, as bad as it is, could have been worse. The next one, and there will be a next one, might have a higher mortality rate.

Let us not forget that after four terrible years, more than 70 million people voted for this man. And let us not forget that with a virus spreading out of control, some unknown percentage of the public is still running around maskless. Our country was founded on the idea that “we the people” could make good decisions for ourselves, but that clearly was wrong. 

There are more people against TRUMP-45 and COVID-19 than for them, however. If you’re one of them, stay vigilant. Vote. Wear your mask. Speak up. Be a good citizen. 

Whoever actually said “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing” is highly disputed. But whoever actually said it, it’s true. There actually are more people on the side of goodness, but the amoral minority is a solid chunk. Give them a chance and they will seize it, as they did when Trump ran for president. 

Wash your hands. Wear your mask. Be vigilant. Vote. We can overcome TRUMP-45, COVID-19 and all future strains of such scourges.
